Leonardo Guglielmi

Leonardo Guglielmi was born and raised in the outskirts of Venice, Italy, where he underwent classical art education. In a county known for many great artist throughout its history, that means mostly live drawing and painting of models, statues, busts, studying proportion and learning about human anatomy. After relocating in Lisbon portugal and then Washington DC, United stated, and most recently Guangzhou, China, Leonardo’s work focuses primarily on the refusal of said academic art rules and concepts as they were taught to him. He often expresses this by choosing less common subjects as the protagonists of his pieces. Whether using POCs subjects, odd objects as popsicles or Digital-like imagery, Leonardo often distorts or skews his depiction of them so that they are just a little off or geometrized.

The main subjects, accompanied by techniques that allow for the distortion of proportion, canons and perspective, create a feeling that his work are a digital image that is struggling to load on a laptop or phone.

Leonardo also brings modern and contemporary aspects of life into his works, such as selfies, fashion Items, and tattoos.  Altogether, Leonardo attempts to create a conversation between tradition and present realities that continue to evolve within society, using the digital, pop and social media world as a tool to do so.
